Central Districts and Tāmaki Makaurau retain Māori Cricket titles
The Central Districts Māori wāhine and Tāmaki Makaurau tāne teams have retained their 2024 titles, winning the 2025 Māori Cricket Tournament.
Held in Auckland last week, this latest victory marks the third consecutive title for both Central Districts and Tāmaki Makaurau since the tournament began in 2023.
Central Districts spin bowler Macy Lyford was one of the standout players, making three key dismissals in the final match.
Opener Georgia Atkinson (41 runs) and wicketkeeper Kerry Tomlinson (34 runs) led the team to victory, securing a 95-run win over Te Whanganui-a-Tara.
In the men’s competition, Tāmaki Makaurau claimed victory by winning all round-robin fixtures against Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Central Districts, Te Waipounamu, and Northern Māori teams.
The tournament will return next year.
