Luxon going South for Waitangi
Prime Minister, Christopher Luxon, has confirmed he wont be attending Waitangi celebrations in the North and, instead, is heading South, with Waatea Political correspondent Claudette Hauiti telling Waatea mid-morning host, Matthew Tukaki that “he’s flown South, even though its not winter” – The Prime Minister confirmed today that he would be at Ōnuku Marae in Akaroa with Ngāi Tahu.
Meanwhile, former Prime Minister, and current Leader of the Opposition, Chris Hipkins has said “Christopher Luxon could easily do both – go up to Waitangi and join in some of the celebrations in the lead up to Waitangi Day and be part of the pōwhiri. He can then go and celebrate Waitangi Day elsewhere.
“But he’s choosing not to. It shows that he is not willing to honour the Treaty of Waitangi despite his claims he would as Prime Minister,”
