Te Matatini 2025 to air nationwide
The free-to-air broadcasters for Te Matatini 2025 have been announced, with Aotearoa’s national and Māori television broadcasters teaming up for the five-day festival in late February.
Yesterday, TVNZ and Whakaata Māori confirmed they will provide live coverage of the festival from 25 February – 1 March in Ngāmotu, New Plymouth.
Te Matatini chairperson Tā Selwyn Parata says Te Matatini o Te Kāhui Maunga 2025 will be the largest national kapa haka festival ever, with a record number of groups qualifying and an extra day added to the programme.
Nationwide coverage through Whakaata Māori and TVNZ will ensure everyone can experience the power and beauty of elite kapa haka.
Fifty-five groups will perform in Ngāmotu, with viewers able to enjoy all the action on TVNZ 2, TVNZ+, Whakaata Māori, and Māori+.
