Corrella, L.A.B. unite for Te Matatini

Download AudioCorrella and L.A.B. have collaborated on a new waiata for Te Matatini o Te Kāhui Maunga 2025, to serve as gateway for audiences and listeners into te ao Māori.
The single, We Belong, was released last Friday in anticipation of the five day kapa haka competition next month.
Corrella lead singer Pipiwharauroa Campbell says the brief they received was to write a song 80-90 percent in English, despite having written and performed waiata Māori with his band.
He says the stage will showcase the purity of te reo, while the waiata will draw people together.
“In that spirit Te Matatini, you know, is a place where anyone can come and watch, and it’s a place where Māori tell their stories. And for anyone who’s ever been to a Matatini, there’s a wairua, there’s a feeling, and it’s an amazing experience,” says Campbell.
