2025 Z Manu Championships head to Whangārei
The 2025 Z Manu World Championships is heading north this coming weekend as the regional competitions near their conclusion.
Following its inaugural competition last year, the event is partnering with several regional competitions to hold nine qualifying rounds, featuring upgraded MANUTECH software to judge the size and sound of each manu.
Regional competitions in Tauranga, Hastings, Māngere, and Nelson have wrapped up over the past month, with more than 20 tamariki, rangatahi, and pakeke bombers qualifying for the grand final in March.
Organiser Scott Rice says last year’s inaugural event was a success, and he is excited to see New Zealand’s manu culture on full display, calling New Zealand the true home of the manu.
“I think we do it best in the world. It’s our sport. It’s a sport, you know, born and bred in Aotearoa, so we’re really, really proud of it. Can’t wait.” says Rice.
This weekend’s Whangārei competition will be held at the Whangārei Aquatic Centre, with the kids’ manu division starting at midday.
