Carving to return home

A carving, that washed up on a Northland Beach has been claimed and is returning home. Experts have indicated it has distinctive Ngapuhi markings, therefore wasn’t too far from home. The wheku measures about 600mm long by 300mm wide and is almost 100mm thick. The carving was a family piece from a grave – the intention is for it to be returned.
