Final broadcast for Te Ao Māori news

Tonight will be the final broadcast of Māori Television’s evening news programme, Te Ao Māori News.

Formerly known as Te Kāea, Te Ao Māori News was the premier news programme when the channel started 20 years ago.

Te Ao Māori News was the first Māori news television programme to incorporate the Māramataka into its weather reports six years ago.

The cancellation is part of a programming shift to producing more online projects, which also means 27 workers will be out of mahi following the broadcast.

Te Ao News will be reporting online-only news, with the free-to-air Te Reo channel moving to online streaming in March next year.
