Willie Jackson honors late Nikki Kaye
Senior Māori Labour MP Willie Jackson has paid tribute to former National Party Auckland Central MP Nikki Kaye, who passed away over the weekend.
Announced yesterday, Kaye died on Saturday. Her family held a private cremation service on Monday before publicly sharing the news.
Kaye served as ACC and Civil Defence Minister under John Key’s government but later stepped back following a diagnosis of breast cancer.
Jackson says Kaye was a standout personality in Key’s government, known for standing firmly on her personal morals.
“She’s very, very courageous of the areas, you know, in terms of anti-mining and those types of kaupapa. Also passionate about languages, supportive of te reo Māori. And I pay tribute to her,” says Jackson.
