Māori symposium explores grassroots health solutions
The Oranga Whenua Oranga Tangata Symposium, hosted by Hāpai Te Hauora, brings together community leaders and innovators to explore culturally grounded solutions for improving Māori health.
Starting today in Wellington, the event addresses pressing challenges facing Māori health by showcasing Māori-led initiatives and highlighting positive health outcomes for whānau and communities.
Hāpai Te Hauora Chief Executive Jacqui Harema says the symposium will showcase grassroots solutions that extend beyond the doctor’s waiting room.
“We’re incorporating all the other sectors, like Kura Kaupapa, like Whānau Ora. We’ve got Mama Neke Maunga from up north, coming
Aotearoa Māori Netball like they all contribute differently through different lenses, but they all have really good health outcomes for our whānau,” says Harema.
Jacqui Harema says the symposium is bringing all Māori health providers together to collaborate, support each other, and deliver improved health outcomes for Māori.
