Auckland Mayor unveils new bus safety screens
Yesterday Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown unveiled the first driver safety screens being installed on Auckland buses, alongside Ritchies Transport CEO Michele Kernahan and Auckland Transport CEO Dean Kimpton.
Mayor Brown says it is important to protect bus drivers, following recent attacks, and praised the new screens as a vital step in ensuring their safety.
The rollout, which includes 50 screens at Takanini and Albany depots, will expand to over 300 buses by next June, with 80% of Auckland buses fitted by mid-2026.
Auckland Transport, in partnership with Ritchies and government co-funding, is committed to creating a safer environment for both drivers and passengers.
