Funding finally approved for Rātana, Waitangi sites

Minister of Regional Development Shane Jones says the $10 million in funding for upgrades to Rātana Pā and the Waitangi Treaty Grounds is long overdue.

Both Minister Jones and Māori Development Minister Tama Potaka support the spending, which Jones says was originally promised by the previous National Government many years ago.
“Taken a while to get there, so with Tama and I it’s a relatively significant sum of money – given the circumstances that confront us – but I think that fair-minded Kiwis would see that stand to generate long-term positive outcomes,” says Jones.
Shane Jones says the funding is a pledge of trust to ensure that both sites of national significance are adequately supported.
