Te Kōhao Health marks 30 years of vision
Te Kōhao Health Managing Director Lady Tureiti Moxon says the organization today embodies the vision set by its founding elders, as they celebrated 30 years last week.
In 1994, at Kirikiriroa Marae in Hamilton, Te Kōhao began as a joint venture between Kirikiriroa Marae and the Union Trust.
As a hub for urban Māori and diverse whānau, the marae provides various cultural, social, health, justice, and education services to meet the community’s needs.
Moxon says the focus on tikanga and pono, and adhering to these principles has led to their success.
“Those people in those days, those early days, had vision. And I think that’s probably the thing that heartens me most is that if we focus on what we believe is right and tika and pono for us, we will get there. We will be the organisation, or be the people, or the whānanu, hapu, iwi that we’re meant to be, and I think that’s the realization of this journey, really,” says Moxon.
