Darleen Tana expelled, remains philosophical amid controversy
Darleen Tana remains philosophical despite no longer being a Member of Parliament.
Earlier this week, Speaker of the House Gerry Brownlee informed Tana that the Green Party’s motion to have her expelled was upheld and effective immediately.
The Green Party expelled her from the party following claims of worker exploitation at her husband’s Waiheke Island bike business.
Using the party-hopping legislation, the party has removed her from Parliament, despite originally voting against the bill in 2001 and again in 2018.
Tana says she’s grateful for the opportunity to represent her whānau and constituents.
“I’m really thankful for all the people, the whānau whānui, who’ve supported me right up until this moment and are holding me right now. I’m thankful that they believe in me. They believe me. I did not do anything wrong,” says Tana.
Benjamin Doyle from Ngāpuhi replaces Tana.
