Lady Moxon honored for health advocacy
Lady Tureiti Moxon, head of Te Kōhao Health, will be awarded an honorary doctorate from Waikato University for her work in transforming Māori health and challenging the status quo.
Today at 1 pm, Chancellor and former Governor-General Sir Anand Satyanand will present two honorary doctorates—one to Lady Moxon and another to Sir Jeremiah “Jerry” Mateparae.
Moxon says the honour is very humbling; however, advocating for better Māori health outcomes is ongoing.
“At the moment, everything within the health system is broken. Now, I take my hat off to all of those who have stayed around and who will continue to look after our hospitals and continue to serve our people going in and out, but it has been broken for a long time, and that’s why we have to look for solutions that are different from what we have now, instead of doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result,” says Lady Moxon.
Lady Moxon says the answers to Māori health lie within ourselves and our communities.
