Māori enhance tourism experience
New Zealand Māori Tourism chair Dale Stephens says international visitors get a kick out of their exposure to Māori culture – even if it’s not what they came here for.
The latest international visitor survey for the June quarter shows most visitors are not coming specifically for the culture.
“Just under ten percent of them are coming here for a cultural experience, and that figure is growing. But of the rest, in excess of 90 percent of them are reporting back that their visit to Aotearoa was enhanced by their exposure in learning about the culture of Te Ao Māori,” Mr Stephes says.
He says the survey points to the need for Māori operators to increase their branding and marketing.
