Te Pāti Māori co-leader Debbie Ngarewa-Packer says last week’s Ngā Manu Kōrero secondary school speech finals in Tāmaki Makaurau showed Māori will not give up the progress made in the past 50 years.
She says it was a good entry into Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori, which marks 52 years since the Māori Language Petition was presented to parliament.
“I know that my tupuna fought for our whānau to stay alive. We fought for our whānau to thrive. And I never feel that has been a waste, as it has been handed on,” Ms Ngarewa-Packer says.
