Ex-Green Tana fights for job
The fate of former Green MP Darleen Tana is now in the hands of High Court Justice David Johnstone, who yesterday heard arguments over the validity of an investigation into her alleged conduct and her subsequent resignation from the party during a caucus meeting to decide her fate.
Until the judge issues his decision, the party is barred from holding a meeting to discuss invoking the party-hopping legislation to remove her from parliament.
The now-independent MP sat at the back of the court during the hearing surrounded by a small group of supporters including her husband, Christian Hoff-Nielsen.
Her lawyer, Sharyn Green, said the report prepared for the party by lawyer Rachel Burt into allegations of migrant exploitation from former employees of Mr Hoff-Nielsen’s e-bike business was inadmissible, because of privilege attached to Employment Relations Authority cases.
She said the Greens broke their own rules in the way it handled the allegations Mrs Tana was somehow involved in her husband’s business.
The Green’s lawyer, Tim Smith, told the court Tana was feeling buyer’s remorse at her own decision to quit.
