Download AudioNew Zealand Netball president Tina Karaitiana rates the late Dame June Mariu as the greatest all-time Māori netballer.
The former Silver Ferns captain is among the many netball greats featuring in a new show at the Auckland War Memorial Museum exhibition – Our Game: A Century of Netball in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Dr Karaitiana says it’s been great to dig into the stories and treasures associated with the game.
“So (it’s) anything that’s happened on that netball front, the people that are out there at that time, because netball is about people – people who have added value, who have done extremely well in our sport, it’s all on display there,” she says.
Reflecting Netball New Zealand’s commitment to the treaty relationship, the exhibition is in te reo and English.
