King gave gift of service to people
New Zealand First deputy leader Shane Jones says Kiinigi Tuheitia had left a legacy and an ethic of service that was rarely seen.
He told the tangihanga at Turangawaewae that in the words of the Bible, it is better to give than to receive – and especially in the latter stage of his life the King had given so much despite his many health challenges.
He had provided a platform for not only iwi but for many people to air their anxieties and concerns.
Kiingi Tuheitia was now going to join the illustrious tupuna who adorn, the whare moko, Mahinarangi, offering a lineage unparalleled among the many iwi.
Kiingi Tuheitia Pootatau Te Wherowhero VII was taken for burial on Taupiri maunga today.
