Goldsmith defends fishy talk
Treaty Negotiations and Justice Minister Paul Goldsmith has defended meeting with the seafood industry about cases it was involved in.
Documents uncovered for the Waitangi Tribunal urgent hearing into changes in the Marine and Coastal Areas Act show the minister met the industry in May when the Court of Appeal was considering questions over the grant of customary marine title to the Wairarapa coastline.
He says it’s part of the job.
“There’s a wide variety of conversations that ministers have with people across the sector and it is quite appropriate and I don’t see what the problem is,” Mr Goldsmith says.
