Tana tries to define rogue role
Former Green MP Darleen Tana believes she can be effective in parliament as an independent.
Ms Tana this week released a lengthy letter to her former party colleagues justifying her decision to stay in parliament.
She says it’s not undemocratic, and she’s upholding principles the Greens seem to have forgotten.
“It frees me up in many ways because i amno longer bound in those party political things and i can work across the whare to try to reach agreement on some things and things like like protections in our moana, protections in our customary rights. When I look at the policies acress parliament we’ve actually got some alighnment with the original Green Party policy with that of National so thereis potential for us to do something even in this term,” ms tana says.
The Green Party will next month decide whether to use the party hopping legislation it opposed to dislodge Darleen Tana from parliament.
