Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei is calling for Whātua uri to unite against Kaipara District Council's decision to disestablish its Māori ward.

On Wednesday, the council voted six to three in favour to scrap Te Moananui o Kaipara Māori ward at the next election.
Ōrākei spokesperson Joe Pihema says there is deep kinship between northern tribes, and they need to fight for the right of Māori to elect their own representatives to councils.
