Te reo version of Encanto almost done
Matewa Media is set to bring a te reo version of the Oscar®-winning animated feature – Encanto to screen in time for next month’s in time for Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori.
Encanto Reo Māori is directed and produced by Tweedie Waititi with Chelsea Winstanley and Mia Henry-Teirney also producing and Pere Wihongi as music director.
Te Waimarie Ngatai-Callaghan makes her debut as the voice of the female lead Mirabel Madrigal while actor and haka stalwart Hinetu Dell will play the centre of the Madrigal whānau, Abuela Alma.
Actor Poroaki Merritt-McDonald plays estranged uncle Bruno, and haka leader and presenter Marica Hopa and musician Awatea Wihongi come together to voice the dialogue and vocals of strongwoman Luisa Madrigal.
Translations for the film were completed by Pānia Papa and Leon Blake.
Colombian consultant, Mauricio Lozano, hailing from the Amazon, and multilinguist Hana Mereraiha, have ensured the Spanish language is honoured throughout the film.
Encanto Reo Māori opens in participating cinemas across Aotearoa from Thursday September 12.
