Tantrum cops censure for Green’s Genter
Green MP Julie Anne Genter has been found in contempt of parliament for an incident in May and will be censured and asked to apologise.
During a debate on transport the Rongotai MP crossed the debating chamber and waved papers in the face of Minister Matt Doocey, repeatedly yelling “read the report”.
The report from the privileges committee said “we have carefully considered whether Ms Genter’s behaviours could fit within the bounds of acceptable parliamentary behaviour. We find that even in the context of a vigorous debate her behaviour was unprofessional and unacceptable. The committee recommended Ms Genter be censured and asked to apologise unreservedly and without qualification
Julie Anne Genter apologised to the house ahead of question time yesterday.
She told reporters she accepted the report’s findings, regretted her actions, and would continue to work to do better.
