No return to white ages says Kapa-Kingi
Te Tai Tokerau MP Mariameno Kapa-Kingi says reaction to her statement that the Government was on a mission to exterminate Māori shows she struck a nerve.
The Maori Party MP’s comment that calls for a colour blind Oranga Tamariki was just another word for white supremacy was condemned by Government parties.
She says it’s an echo of what she saw as a social worker in the 1990s, when efforts to implement Puao-te-ata-tu, a report on the failings of Social Welfare, were thwarted because they gave Maori a say in their own destiny.
“We are going back to the white ages because it has just gotten too brown. It’s not just happening in Aotearoa. It’s happening in the United States, it’s happening all over the world, everything is just getting too brown equals indigenous equals motuhake. That’s what’s happening here and they just can’t stand for it,” Ms Kapa-Kingi says.
She urges Maori to get organised because power rests outside parliament with the people.
