Christchurch Call pushed to charity row
The Government is dropping funding for the Christchurch Call, which is set to continue as a charity.
The Government had been paying incidental expenses for former prime minister Dame Jacinda Ardern, who started the initiative with French president Emmanuel Macron in response to the Christchurch mosque attacks with the aim of eliminating the online spread of terrorist and violent extremist content.
Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and President Macron of France announced yesterday the work would be taken up by a new non-governmental organisation, the Christchurch Call Foundation, with a head office in Weliington and sites around the world.
It had been serviced out of the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet.
Dame Jacinda Ardern will continue her work in the new role of patron.
