Transport cuts hurting Māori
Labour’s Auckland issues spokesperson says the Government is kicking urban Māori whānau where it hurts.
During the final week of is 100 day action plan the coalition has pushed through the repeal of the Auckland regional fuel, putting major public transport infrastructure in doubt, while also proposing an increases in fuel excise and car registration fees.
Shanan Halbert says Labour’s public transport subsidies are also gone.
“When we looked at half price public transport, that was a practical means to assist our whanau to get to where they’re going to, get to mahi, go and see their whanau, that the kids could get home from school easily,” he says.
Mr Halbert says there is an anti Māori sentiment behind many of the coalition’s policy choices.
