Schoolswork suffers from poor working
The Child Poverty Action Group wants an an urgent investigation into kids working long hours and even quitting school to support their families.
It estimates 15,000 youngsters are in paid employment to help pay for necessities for their families.
Spokesperson Alan Johnson says he based the estimate on official household income data.
“Because it’s only a snapshot, because it’s only a partial view that we do need better information so we can work out what we need to do in response to that, but I think for us it’s not just about collecting data, it’s actually about doing something about it now,” he says.
