Tribunal ignored in rush to kill Smokefree
One of the claimants challenging the Government’s intent to scrap Smokefree regulations says it is showing disdain for Māori lives.
Whanganui-based health researcher Dr Amohia Boulton says the Government is arguing against the need for an urgent Waitangi Tribunal hearing ahead of the introduction of its repeal bill on March 8.
She says the Smokefree Environments and Regulated Products Act will prevent 5000 people dying each year.
That’s the equivalent of the population of towns such as Balclutha, Kaikohe or Dargaville.
