Pacific sounds showcase on global discotech
This weekend in Rarotonga, the first Boiler Room Pacific gig will kick off a series going across the Pacific Islands – in collaboration with London based Pacifika DJ Shakaiah Perez aka Lady Shaka & Pulotu Underworld.
Boiler Room began in 2010, as a webcam stream broadcasting the best and emerging artist from London’s underground dance music scene.
Since then, the Boiler Room have built an archive spanning over 8000 performances by more than 5000 artists across 200 cities across the world.
Lady Shaka says this new series has taken 11 months to organise and will showcase Pacific Island artists on the Boiler Room for the first time and bring international opportunities to the Pacific diaspora.
“When it comes to talking about the Pacific, generally it’s quite focused on Polynesia and we really want to shine a spotlight on the islands in Micronesia, islands of Melanesia. And also places like the Philippines as well, like we are all part of the Pacific and we are all part of the moana and I think, all of those different islands places like Kiribati, Palau, Samoa, Guam, all deserve to have that spotlight and to have the opportunity to share a different part of the Pacific and how they, as Pacific Islanders relate to music and sound,” Lady Shaka says.
Lady Shaka says a very limited RSVP spaces are open for internationals, with flights still available to come and party while free tickets are available for locals at Vaianas Bar & Bistro from 16 January 2024.
Videos from the event of DJ sets will be available online to watch and stream in a few months.
