Toitū protest shows emergence of Generation Tiriti
An organiser of this morning’s Toitu te Tiriti protest in Whangārei says he’s thrilled at the number of people who turned out in the city to support Te Pāti Māori’s call for a nationwide day of action.
Te Hiwi Preston says about 400 people marched to show Māori oppose Government’s attacks on Māori initiatives, health, wellbeing and the status of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
“It’s to demonstrate the beginning of a unified Aotearoa in response to the Government’s assault on tangata whenua and Te Tiriti o Waitangi, demonstrating the might of tangata whenua and tangata tiriti working together and the revolution of the Gen T generation, so generation te Tiriti,” he says.
Mr Preston says many pākeha supported today’s action as the Government’s policies also attack the vulnerable and the poor.
