Sodden Te Tairawhiti takes another pounding

Authorities in Te Tai Rawhiti and northern Hawke’s Bay are doing infrastructure and welfare checks after more heavy rain over the weekend.

People are being asked to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary.

Numerous roads were closed due to slips and flooding, and the region is considered vulnerable as it was already saturated, with significant downpours just two weeks ago.

More than 300 people were without power in the Gisborne District yesterday.
