Labour Party leader Chris Hipkins says a wealth tax could be back on the table for 2026.

Labour Party leader Chris Hipkins says a wealth tax could be back on the table for 2026.

Mr Hipkins was reconfirmed in the job yesterday and promised a policy reset after going into the election having ruled out a wealth tax or capital gains tax.

He says caucus is realistic about the challenge ahead.

“I have been very clear with the caucus, we lost and so we start again. That means every thing comes back onto the table and that includes a discussion around tax and in 2026 our tax policy could look very different from 2023,” Mr Hipkins says.
