Hipkins likely to retain leadership

Labour’s new caucus is set to retain Chris Hipkins as party leader.
The hui started in Upper Hutt just after 9.30am this morning, with leadership on the agenda.
A majority of MPs have signalled their support for Mr Hipkins, but whether he stays in the role until the 2026 election may depend on how well he and the party perform in Opposition.
Rino Tirikatene, who lost his Te Tai Tonga electorate but stays on as a list MP, says the party has much soul searching to do.
Meanwhile, negotiations continue between National, ACT and New Zealand First on the shape of the next government.
