Foreign Affairs minister urges New Zealanders in Vanuatu to check in amidst Cyclone Lola

Foreign Affairs Minister Nanaia Mahuta says New Zealand stands ready to assist Vanuatu as reports of the damage tropical cyclone Lola has wrecked across the country’s northern islands come in.
Nanaia Mahuta, who retains the Foreign Affairs portfolio until the new Government is in place, says the Ministry is asking all New Zealanders in Vanuatu to register with Safe Travel and to date 92 have done so, with the number expected to rise.
This allows the Ministry through our Consulate to send out advice and to also help if in need of emergency shelter or other issues arise in relation to them and their family’s safety and well-being.
“What we are also in readiness to provide if asked for is cyclone relief and that could come in by way of either you know, food, water support like that or health professionals. So that will all depend on the severity of the impact,” she says
Nanaia Mahuta says this is a tense time for people who are over in Vanuatu and for now the Ministry is keeping a watching brief.
