High hopes for National’s New Plymouth MP

New Plymouth’s new National Party MP David Macleod says he feels the weight of his hapu and iwi in his new mahi.
The former Taranaki Regional Council chair has whakapapa to Ngati Ruanui, Ngāti Mutunga and Ngāti Pōrou .
Speaking to Radio Waatea reporter Claudette hauiti at a whakatau at Parliament, he acknowledged Māori expect great things of him.
“Our hapū, our iwi, everybody that’s here is expecting us to do great things, make quality decisions on behalf of New Zealand,” he says.
He’s cagey about whether he has his eye on a particular portfolio but given his experience at governance, he could be a future Minister for Local Government.
“I’m here to serve my party, the leadership will make that decision in due course.” says MacLeod.
David MacLeod beat one-term Labour MP Glen Bennett to take back the seat for National.
