Māngere BEATZ celebrates the cultural melting pot of Māngere
School across Māngere have been preparing for the annual BEATZ of Māngere festival, which will be held at Mountain View School tomorrow.
Mountain View deputy principal Felicity Davis says this year it’s starting with a Niuean performance to mark Niuean language week, and other performances from across the Pacific and Asia will celebrate the cultural melting pot of Māngere.
She says the festival has proved to be an effective way for the 17 schools to encourage attendance.
“Kids involved in the event, whether they were practising for their performance or participating in other types of activities, it created that sense of excitement and motivation to attend school regularly. It’s been a really good thing for attendance in our Māngere community,” Ms Davis says.
BEATZ of Māngere festival is open to the public and starts at 9am Friday.
