Māori and Pasifika people in Tairāwhiti aged between 50 and 59 are now able to take part in the free National Bowel Screening Programme.
The lower starting age for Māori and Pacific people is being progressively introduced across Aotearoa because of the higher risk of the cancer in those groups.
The age range for other populations remaining 60 to 74 years.
Eligible people will be offered an invitation by mail around their 50th birthday, and then every two years until they are 74.
