Hipkins pushing back on anti-Māori rhetoric
Labour Party leader Chris Hipkins is set to give a Māori-focused state of the nation speech at Nga Whare Waatea Marae tomorrow morning.
Māori campaign chair Willie Jackson says Labour is looking for a 3 to 5 percentage point increase in the last few days – and it’s done it before.
He says the Prime Minister has stood up for Māori against the race baiting that has been a part of this election from parites like ACT and New Zealand First.
“I’ll be very proud to support that tomorrow with some of the team and I think that’s what Maoridom need. They need assurances that leaders will stand up against this constant rubbish being peddled by (ACT leader David) Seymour and of course (NZ First leader) Winston (Peters) jumping on – not jumping on, he’s made it part and parcel of his campaign this year,” Mr Jackson says.
Prime Minister Chris Hipkins will be interviewed with Paakiwaha presenter Dale Husband after the hui.
