Left bloc stuck in polls
Labour’s Māori electorate campaign co-ordinator Willie Jackson says the left bloc needs to lift its vote another three of four points to have a chance of forming the next Government.
Willie Jackson says Whakaata Maori polls for the Maori electorates confirm his feeling Labour is leading the race to retain the majority of its seats, but a lot of work is needed to shore up the vote in Ikaroa Rawhiti and Te Tai Hauauru.
Overall, the combined Labour-Green vote is stuck and something needs to change.
“We’re about 28, 29 (percent) on our internal and the Greens are 11 (percent) but we still end up 40 percent. If we are going to get across the line we need at least 43 percent between us. If we can’t get that we can’t be in the running,”
Mr Jackson says.
Getting voters out in the Maori seats to also party vote Labour is a way to boost its overall chances.
