Labour’s Māori campaign coordinator says there’s room for improvement in the Electoral Commission’s assistance to Māori voters.

Willie Jackson says questions around accessibility and opportunities for Māori to vote get raised at every election.

He says it shouldn’t be so hard for people to exercise their rights.

“We’ve got just over three weeks left in terms of this election and we’ve got a bit of time to try to get this in order. It’s important our people get the opportunity to exercise their democratic rights,” Mr Jackson says.

Only 15 kaupapa Māori polling stations are being set up where voters can get advice in te reo Māori, and there’s also questions raised every election about poll worker training and whether every polling station will have access to the Māori electoral rolls.
