No waste champion standing for climate and Tiriti justice
The Greens’ Christchurch Central candidate says she was attracted by the party’s combination of environmentalism and social justice.
Kahurangi Carter from Ngāti Maniapoto is a former national manager of waste minimisation rōpū Para Kore.
That led to her current role as a senior strategic partnerships advisor for the Ministry for the Environment, so running for office seemed the next step in her quest for bold, systemic change.
“I am about bold change and absolutely we are here for Tiriti justice and our vision for the Green Party is a climate-friendly Aotearoa that honours Te Tiriti and meets the needs of everyone in Aotearoa, and we care about this thing called te taiao. Social justice and climate justice for me are the same thing,” she says.
Kahurangi Carter is at number 14 on the Green party list.
