Awareness raised in Northland election

Greens’ Northland candidate hopes kaumatua can help the turn out the vote for Te Roopū Kākāriki.
Huhana Lyndon says Māori in the north are split equally between the Māori and general rolls, so there is potentially a large pool of Māori voters she can tap into.
She’s talking with kaumatua about how they can encourage whānau to both consider the issues at stake and to take part in the election.
“It is different in this digital age, yes, but while we are digitally connected, does that mean we will activate our vote because it’s different to getting likes on Facebook or TikTok to actually pōti and those are some of the challenges in terms for inspiring political awareness and then political activation for out people,” Ms Lyndon says
