PSA ready for savage cuts

The Public Service Association says thousands of government workers will lose their jobs if National wins the election.
National has flagged it wants to save around $600 million a year from government departments to pay for its tax cuts.
PSA national secretary Duane Leo says that means deep and savage cuts to services and to New Zealand’s preparedness to deal with things like climate change and natural disasters.
“They’re looking at the Department of Conservation which safeguards New Zealand and our iconic species; the Department of Internal Affairs which investigates cybersecurity and the issuing of passports and has recently been in the media for looking into the immigrant situation with workers; the Ministry of Social Development with helps vulnerable people doing it tough – the list goes on,” he says.
Mr Leo says National won’t give any detail about its cuts, so New Zealanders can’t vote on the basis of accurate information.
