Motu gets ready for Māori language moment
It’s Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori, and Māori Language Commisioner Dr Rawinia Higgins says she’s hearing of people around the country preparing their reo Māori moment.
This year’s moment will take place at midday on Thursday.
Dr Higgins says the wero has caught on.
“Every year we get to see more innovation, you know, from our small community shops, such as a one in Tokomaru in the FourSquare with their rārangi kai shopping list translator. You know, just those little things that show the innovation of how people can use te reo Māori in an everyday situation,” she says.
Dr Higgins says there is growing recognition among all New Zealanders of how te reo Māori is a unique asset to Aotearoa.
