Opportunity beckons for Hipango in Te Tai Hauāuru
National Party Te Tai Hauāuru candidate Harete Hipango says she’s prepared for the electorate’s geographic challenge.
As one of the first National Party candidates in a Maori seat in 20 years, the former Whanganui MP is up against two fellow list MPs, Te Pāti Māori co-leader Debbie Ngārewa Packer and Labour’s Soraya Peke-Mason.
The electorate covers the western side of Te Ika a Maui from Tokorora to Porirua.
“There’s 224 marae there, scattered throughout Te Tai Hauāuru. There are about 43 different tribal entities and groupings. So yes, it’s vast, it’s a challenge that we’re prepared to take on because importantly it’s about providing opportunities for our Māori voters and Māori communities,” she says
