Anti-violence mahi outside politics
The chair of an independent tangata whenua advisory group on the elimination of family violence – says she hopes the work continues despite the outcome of the election.
Maria Baker says Te Pūkotahitanga was set up in June last year, to provide a Māori perspective on the government’s 25-year elimination of family violence strategy – Te Aorerekura.
She says it’s making huge progress in unifying stakeholders.
“It’s the first framework I have ever seen that has cultivated and facilitated a truly collective all-of-government, all-of-agency, all-of-community, all-of-people kind of a way of working,” Dr Baker says.
Te Pūkotahitanga is also working to ensure matauranga Maori is a part of the solution.
