Tool to teach tamariki social media safety
An Irish-designed tool to help primary school children learn how to use social media safely is being introduced to New Zealand.
Cybersmarties is a UNICEF/End Violence Against Children Global Partner, and here it’s teamed up with the Department of Internal Affairs ‘Keep It Real Online’public awareness campaign.
Cybersmarties New Zealand chief executive and former All Black Doug Howlett says it provides a safe online playground for tamariki which can be monitored by schools.
“As they watch children in the playground, you know, at lunchtime, they are ensuring that they’re safe, they’re ensuring that no bullying has happened, we do exactly the same in an online environment. So we provide a digital playground, where children can play experiment, while we’re sort of monitoring and keeping them safe,” he says.
