Peters’ rhetoric puts off Hipkins
Labour leader Chris Hipkins has ruled New Zealand First out of having a role in government if Labour retains the treasury benches.
He could work with Te Pāti Māori and the Greens, but Winston Peters is a force for instability and chaos.
He’s trying to import culture war talking points from the United States like which public toilets trans people can use.
“New Zealand First has become a party more interested in toilets than in the issues that matter most to New Zealanders. The rhetoric that I’m hearing from Winston Peters in this election means I just don’t see any compatibility with my vision for an inclusive, progressive and prosperous society,” Mr Hipkins says.
Mr Peters says he’s been saying since last year that New Zealand First won’t work with Labour because of what he says are its racist separatist policies.
