Sio sees off parliament in Samoan style
Māori Development Minister and Mangere-based list MP Willie Jackson says Mangere MP Aupito William Sio has been a great advocate for not only Pasifika but for Māori and the people of south Auckland.
The former Minister for Pacific Peoples made his valedictory speech last night in traditional Samoan dress, saying he wanted to give Pasifika people confidence to claim the right to sit at the table of decision-making at all levels of Aotearoa.
Mr Jackson says he got away with speaking well over the allotted time.
“Classy, that bloke. A great advocate for our people of south Auckland, not just Pasifika. I was proud of him and proud to watch his contribution last night and I am sure so many of his people, our people of south Auckland would have been proud of him too,” he says.
